Our Field Trip to the orchard is next week, October 6. Please do not forget to turn in your money and permission form. The cost is $6 per child. Please see the newsletter and parent board for more information.

We decided to throw some classic children's stories into our curriculum. So this week we will be learning about the 3 Little Pigs and Billy Goats Gruff. We will continue to watch for the changing of leaves and do a few fun crafts with that. This week is a review of all the letters we have learned so far and we will be working on the sight word "in".

We all got a chance to ring the church bell, it was hard to pull but we could hear loud and clear.
We did an experiment with salt and saran wrap. We all yelled really loud and watched the salt jump off the saran wrap. We learned that sound travels through the air in waves.

We got our hands dirty as we drew and wrote in shaving cream.

This coming week is the start of fall! We will be talking and learning about the 4 seasons.

This week we have been learning about our 5 senses, the letter Hh, and the sight word "can". We will spend one more week discovering our senses and all they do. We have a senses walked planned for Tuesday. We will walk around the block at church while we use all our senses. On our walk everyone gets a chance to ring the church bell and to listen to it ring (if you are downtown and hear the bell you will know it is us). Our organist Karen Viser is going to play the organ for us. She lets the kids hear the difference in sounds and shows them how the pipes open and close. Wednesday we will have our tasting party. We will taste a variety of different foods, the sign up is on the board.

Our field trip is schelduled for Tuesday, October 6. We will be sending home permission forms. The cost will be $6 per person. Parents are welcome but only ONE parent per child and we are sorry but no younger siblings are permitted. Everyone is invited on field trip day. We will be taking the church buses but you are welcome to drive your child. We would like to offer the following advice: If you feel your child behaves better when you are not there do not feel you have to come. We will take good care of all the kids just like we would if they were our own. Riding the bus is part of the experience and the kids really enjoy it, we have certified drivers and the teachers are on the bus.

This week we have been busy learning about seeds, the letter "z", writing our names in order and with upper and lower case letters, and the sight word "a". We read many great books about seeds and how they grow, we heard the story "Jack and the Beanstalk", and the parable of the sower. We planted a "root view" garden for our room and some beans in a baggie so we can watch them sprout. Every time we have gone outside this week we have found seeds and brought them into our science center. We made pictures using all kinds of seeds. We learned a new poem about seeds. On Thursday we are going to cut open different fruits and vegetables to look at their seeds. Of course we will taste them and then plant the seeds to see what will happen. We have been working on counting, sorting, learning the months, sequencing and lots of other things.

If you spent a day with us you would not believe how many things your child is learning all day long. This next week we will be learning about our 5 senses, the letter Hh, and the sight word "can". Please check the door for our "tasting party sign up" which will be on Wednesday. If your child is not signed up for a day we do something like the "tasting party" please know that we change the days we do things like this so that each child can benefit to the fullest.

Our field trip is scheduled for October 6, please keep watching for more information.
Again, thanks for sharing your child with us we are enjoying them so much.
